In your community
Because of the Trust's local presence right across Somerset we are uniquely placed to work with local communities supporting enjoyment, understanding and action to improve the natural environment.
All our work with local communities aims to inspire people to live sustainably, in a landscape rich in wildlife, where the connections between people and nature are strengthened.
We achieve this through the Living Landscape and Community, Campaigns and Education teams at the trust, the work of the Area Groups and the work of other dedicated volunteer groups. The activity happening in local communities across Somerset is varied and includes local (and sometimes national) ‘save our…’ and other campaigns, monitoring and recording projects such as the big bat survey on Mendip and the proposed waxcap fungi and arable wildflower projects in Taunton and West Somerset. We are also working with partner organisations on projects to interpret the local wildlife interest.
Through our new strategic plan we are gearing up to become better placed to support enjoyment, understanding and action in local communities. These new community driven projects will link directly into our conservation activity on reserves and the wider countryside and explore different ways of engaging local people with the natural heritage on their doorstep.
