Wilder Communities

Bigger, better, more joined up

We need to create a strong, interconnected network of wild spaces and healthy habitats that provide space for nature to thrive. Land of any size can contribute to this Nature Recovery Network – nature reserves, community spaces, gardens, farms, parks, churchyards and schools – it works at any scale.

There are many people across the county who have the passion and energy to drive positive change for nature in their local area, school, business, land, or workplace.

You may already be a part of an existing community group taking action for nature, or you may be looking to set your own one up. Can we help you get connected and take action for nature in your local patch?

No community groups in your area?

Starting a community group on your own takes a lot of time and energy but we’re here to help you! We can help connect you with others in your area and support you with advice and resources in setting a group up yourselves.

Our plan to create a Wilder Somerset cannot happen without grassroots support and activism. For the momentum to build, we need people to take the lead and champion nature - whether it is directly working with nature, inspiring other people to act, or asking local and national governments to act. We each have a role to play.

We’re also looking for volunteer “Wilder Champions” to help engage and encourage others, using your enthusiasm and any special skills or interests. Perhaps you could run an inspiring event? Or maybe you’d like to lead school assemblies? Or could you attend local meetings to speak up for nature?
