About the event

This day-long session at Kilve Court will consist of a morning indoor session learning about the Marine Strandings Network, Cetacean (dolphin, whales and porpoise) identification, H&S, and how to use our recording forms to gather the vital records we need.

In the afternoon we will head outside for a practical session and learn how to record dead strandings using life-sized models of a dolphin, porpoise and seal. This will be a fun day, but with a serious purpose.

This training is about dead strandings and is separate from training to rescue live marine life!  There will be some gruesome images in the presentations so the event isn’t suitable for children.

At the end of the day, you will complete a registration form to join your local Marine Strandings Volunteer Network (MSN) – either for Devon and/or for Somerset/Bristol Channel. You will also receive a digital training pack to take home with you.

PLEASE NOTE: This training is for (adult) Somerset/Bristol residents who will volunteer to attend DEAD strandings along the Bristol Channel coastline.  Devon residents (especially from North Devon) are also welcome to attend although there are separate MSNs set up for you to join for North & for South Devon.
