Enabling the wilding of Honeygar on Somerset Levels and Moors

Individual supporters who give £5,000 or more to our Honeygar project are recognised as Honeygar Pioneers. The support of each Honeygar Pioneer has a substantial impact on realising our vision for Honeygar. We will encourage you to be closely involved in this important, ambitious and pioneering project and watch nature return.

As a Honeygar Pioneer you will have the chance to follow closely the impact of rewetting and wilding this strategic site in the heart of Somerset’s Levels and Moors. As we rewet the land and restore natural processes allowing the site, over time, to become a net carbon sink, we will share what we learn with you. We will be monitoring changes in the peat soils, carbon, water quality and nature present, and there will be opportunities for you to visit Honeygar with the Somerset Wildlife Trust team.

Longer term our vision for Honeygar includes creating sustainable buildings on the site of the old farm buildings as a second phase of work. By becoming a Honeygar Pioneer you will also be supporting these crucial early stages investigating our options, which will lay the foundations for the transformation to ‘green’ buildings at Honeygar, so the site becomes a showcase for nature recovery, carbon capture and can inspire more sustainable rural building too.

Our plans for Honeygar are the next chapter in the site’s long history. The raised ‘island’ of Honeygar, known locally as a burtle, where the buildings are sited, has probably been a focus for human activity for the last 10,000 years. It is a site of significant archeological interest nationally and wilding and rewetting Honeygar will support the preservation of its important Neolithic archeology, which you will also have the chance to learn about.

As a Honeygar Pioneer you will join a small group of like-minded supporters with a particular passion for seeing our vision for Honeygar realised and you will be able to celebrate with us all that your generosity has enabled.

It will be a fascinating journey and we invite you now to join us as a Honeygar Pioneer...
