About the event

Hedgelaying is a country craft that rejuvenates existing hedgerows by encouraging them to put on new growth, improving the overall structure and strength of a hedge. This helps provide a fantastic habitat for wildlife, with well managed hedgerows acting as corridors, larders and shelter for wildlife crisscrossing our countryside. Hedgelaying is fun and physical skill to learn that can be applied to hedges on your own land or garden.

The training day will be run by the experts at Somerset Hedgelayers (https://somersethedgelayers.co.uk/), no prior experience of hedgelaying or countryside work is necessary. However please be aware that hedgelaying is a physical task, and we will be outside all day. Please where robust outdoor clothing, sturdy boots and no jewellery or dangly items that could get caught.

This event is made possible by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, tickets by donation.

Places limited, booking essential. Max 10 places.

This event is suitable for ages 16+.

Event cancellation, refund and no-show policy

We kindly request that you provide a minimum of 48 hours’ notice for cancellations of booked in-person events to enable us a reasonable opportunity to offer the space to someone else.

To ensure that we can continue to offer events to as many people as possible, we have implemented a two-strike no-show policy. Two instances of a no-show or last-minute cancellation (within 48 hours) will result in a booking-ban for 6 months.

Please be aware that we are a charity, and the vast majority of our events are already run at a loss. Planning and delivering our event program is no small effort, and managing cancellations and no-shows generates additional admin, wastage and costs, as well as being disheartening for staff and volunteers.

We know times are tough for many, so we endeavour to keep prices low or offer events on a “Pay-what-you-can” basis, to enable as many people as possible to learn and enjoy nature with us. Unless otherwise stated bookings are non-refundable.

Thank you for your understanding. We look forward to welcoming you to an event soon.
