FAQs
How your fundraising helps
You'll walk, jog or run to protect and restore Somerset's wildlife and wild places!
Over half of UK species have declined since 1970, while more than one in ten are under threat and at risk of disappearing altogether - we are in an ecological and climate emergency, and your support couldn’t come at a more critical time.
By getting sponsored, you’ll help us work towards our goal of at least 30% of land and sea managed for nature by 2030, and you’ll help us fight harder to achieve our vision of a Somerset wide Nature Recovery Network. This will create more space for wildlife and nature to thrive, it will reverse the decline in species diversity, and will create resilient landscapes and habitats for wildlife (and people), that can adapt to a warming climate.
Be the champion that Somerset's wildlife needs and secure your place at the South West Coast 50 Challenge today.

All distances are fully route marked, with a team of ‘Trekmasters’ out on the trail with you.
Matched Funding - how can I double the amount I raise?
Many employers have a Matched Funding scheme where they can support their employees' charity of choice by matching the funds you raise.
Effectively, each sponsor can be doubled. Getting this commitment towards the start of your fundraising, will help you raise even more, as your friends, family and colleagues will be more inclined to sponsor you, knowing their donation will be matched.
Often, the amount matched will be capped. For example, the first £250 that you raise is matched where your employer donates £250 too. Ask your employer if they could match your fundraising total, or part of it.
If your employer requires proof of your fundraising, we'll provide this for you. Email fundraising@somersetwildlife.org
This is a great way to boost your total, with no extra effort!
Gift Aid - how can I boost the funds I raise by 20%?
If your sponsors tick the Gift Aid declaration box, this means we can claim an extra 25p from HMRC for every £1 donated. There's no extra cost to them, or you. They just need to be UK taxpayers.
For online donations, including sponsors on Just Giving, they just need to tick the "Gift Aid" declaration when they sponsor you.
For cash donations, please ask your sponsors to tick the Gift Aid declaration on your sponsor form, and send us a copy once you've completed your fundraising (a photo or scan sent by email is ideal).
How can I connect my Strava account to my Just Giving fundraising page?
Strava is an app that tracks your training routes and physical activity, and it can now be linked up with your fundraising page on Just Giving, to automatically share your training achievements. Share your miles, pictures, and routes to make your fundraising more fun and show just how committed you are to raising funds for wildlife.
Here's how:
- Download and register with Strava (if you haven’t already)
- Log in to your JustGiving account and view the fundraising page you wish to connect with. Scroll down and select the ‘Connect Strava’ button.
- Confirm the Strava permissions, and select and save your fitness settings/preferences.
- Track your chosen exercise in the Strava app and watch as it automatically updates on your page!
