Consulting Somerset: Beaver Management (Minehead) PLUS guest speaker!
Northfield, Minehead, Somerset, TA24 5PU
About the event
How do you feel about wild beavers being in Somerset? What challenges might they bring? What are the benefits?
After an absence of approximately 400 years, beavers are now back in Somerset. We know learning to live alongside them again will bring a lot of benefits, but we may also need to make some management changes. That's why we need your input on a new Beaver Management Strategy for the county.*
Join us at this free event to share your views with us — it doesn't matter if you're a beaver expert or just beaver curious. Your feedback is still valuable!
We are also really pleased to be joined by Jack Siviter, Area Ranger at National Trust Holnicote who will share his experiences of the environmental and social effects beaver presence has had in the local area.
This event will include:
- A presentation on National Trust Holnicote’s beaver project and their impacts by Jack Siviter, Area Ranger at National Trust Holnicote
- An overview of the draft Beaver Management Strategy, exploring how it was created and why it matters by Alicia Hallatt, Human-Wildlife Co-existence Officer at Somerset Wildlife Trust
- A live Q&A and feedback session. This is your chance to ask your questions and share your views on the draft Strategy!
Teas, coffees, squash and biscuits provided!
*Somerset Wildlife Trust has been commissioned by the Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group (FWAG), with funding from the Somerset Rivers Authority (SRA), to produce a Beaver Management Strategy for the county. It could be the first completed strategy of its kind in England since beavers were made a legally protected species in 2022. You can read the draft strategy here.
