Advocate for wildlife in your community
Somerset Wildlife Trust, as part of The Wildlife Trusts movement, has a long history of campaigning for nature – speaking out against laws or developments that would put habitats or species at risk, creating protected areas and zones that will join up our landscape and ensuring the environment is a priority to local decision-makers.
There are many different ways to be a part of campaigns: engaging in digital e-actions to ensure projects and laws are debated in Parliament, communicating directly with local politicians to ask for their support, raising awareness through social media or at an event, or simply through spreading the word amongst your friends, family and in your community, to mobilise more people to create a Wilder Somerset. Take action for nature through Team Wilder
In order for nature to recover, we need many more people on nature’s side. The science shows that if just one person in every four (25%) visibly takes action, this can be enough to change the minds and behaviour of the majority. By taking visible action for nature, no matter how small, you can make an impact and invite more wildlife back into our lives.
We need to create a strong, interconnected network of wild spaces and healthy habitats that provide space for nature to thrive. Land of any size can contribute to this Nature Recovery Network – nature reserves, community spaces, gardens, farms, parks, churchyards and schools – it works at any scale.
